Appendix B : Systems which Address Courseware Management Issues

In this appendix we provide further details about several systems which provide a variety of solutions or partial solutions to several areas of courseware management. The list is NOT a summary of all the interesting projects which exist; it just includes some of the systems which members of the EPOC Working Group have either discovered, or been involved with, and which can serve to illustrate courseware management issues. An overview of these systems provides a reasonable overview of what courseware management involves. These overviews are in some cases provided by the designers of the systems and in some cases they are just overviews sketched out by EPOC. Please note that any views expressed in this section are NOT opinions, guidelines, or suggestions being made by EPOC. In fact, there are probably many contradictions about open courseware and courseware management being expressed within these pages. This is a healthy reflection of the fact that a diverse range of approaches is a strength but also a major impediment to standards.
